Introduction

Plastics come in many varieties, each with a different chemical structure, and different physical properties. Mixing them together results in an inferior material. Separating out mixed plastics from a recycling container is an interesting engineering challenge.

Activity

The six common plastics, each with their own recycling code, also have different densities. Your task is to take advantage of this information, and devise a procedure for separating the six plastics. The slide show embedded below gives more details.
